Most of the top kitchen trends of 2024 make life in the kitchen easier, more organized, and less chaotic. After the uncertainty of the past few years, we all deserve a space that’s a pleasant retreat from reality, while still reflecting a stylish palette of beautiful design elements. “The hottest trend in kitchen lighting is layering and creating a versatile ambiance,” says Kelly. “We’re seeing a shift away from bold statement pendant lights on kitchen islands and dining areas, while focusing on functionality and Celebrating integrated under-cabinet and toe-kick lighting to add a touch of sparkle.”
Sconces, which combine style and utility, are another lighting trend. “Bright, overhead recessed lights can create glare on kitchen work surfaces,” says Ashley Macuga, principal designer at Collected Interiors. “We love installing sconces in the kitchen because they add a layer of low light and look so beautiful when dimmed once the kitchen is closed for the evening.”
Macuga agrees that subtle supplemental lighting is essential. “Under-cabinet lighting allows for both functional and aesthetic illumination, but it’s concealed, so where the light comes from feels like a bit of a mystery.” Macuga also predicts we’ll see greater use of architectural lighting, such as wall washes, to highlight key areas of design details like beautiful backsplashes and range hoods.

Fussy lighting is definitely not in its favor. “There’s so much light outside that overwhelms the kitchen,” says Shelby Van Dailey, founder and lead designer of Dailey Home. “Lights that are simple and allow your eyes to see the entire kitchen.”

Monochromatic, all-white kitchens are no longer as popular as they used to be. “We’re seeing a resurgence of dramatic color tones that offer powerful contrast, such as warm, saturated colors paired with subdued neutral colors,” says Kelly. Blues and greens as well as dark browns, smoky blues and reds and purples are taking center stage to give the kitchen a cozy, inviting ambiance.
Mixing light or dark woods with saturated colors is also great. “I think the balance of painted and wood cabinetry is really important,” Macuga says. “Color can give personality and charm to a space, and colored woods give a space a feeling of warmth and depth.”

But darker colors are starting to appear in the kitchen. “Burgundy and orange colors are booming in kitchens,” says Bethany Adams, principal of Bethany Adams Interiors. “They’re not for the faint of heart, but if you want a cozy kitchen, there’s no better palette than this.” If you want to start small, Van Daly suggests, simply stain or paint your cabinet knobs. “It gives a very attractive look to the kitchen.”
Matte black and titanium finishes are growing in popularity. On the other hand, brass is still popular, especially with an emphasis on vintage looks, says Laura Williams, principal designer at ATX Interior Design.
Natural materials like marble are used for counters and floors. “In recent years white marble has been considered a risky material choice for countertops because of its susceptibility to stains and chips,” says Williams. “But homeowners are taking risks for its natural stunning veins and movement. “They are more accepting of the ‘imperfections’ that arise from day-to-day use, allowing the surface to show its ‘life stories’.”
The earthy colors and vibrant veins of quartzite are also popular. “Using these types of materials not only provides a connection to the beauty of our natural world, but it also creates a sense of sanctuary and harmony in our homes,” says Macuga.

Many homeowners are prioritizing sustainability and low-maintenance materials. “Customers are embracing natural stone-looking varieties with products like the Silestone Le Chic collection and the Dekton Pietra Code collection,” says Kelly.

Induction cooking has been popular in Europe for decades and is becoming increasingly common in the US, a trend fueled by the debate over the safety of gas stoves last year. “Induction cooking produces less smoke than gas cooking, so there’s really no need for a hulking extractor or vent hood,” says Adams. “This opens up a lot more options in terms of recirculating the downdraft or even leaving the hood off in older homes where there is already a lot of airflow.”
Even older brands like La Cornue make induction ranges, so there’s an option for every kitchen style. “If Chanel handbags had a kitchen appliance as a cousin, it would be the La Cornue range,” says Macuga. Meanwhile, older and heavier equipment is certainly on its way out. Kelly says brands like Heston reflect the desire for high-performance, smart appliances that blend seamlessly into design while offering cutting-edge functionality and energy efficiency.
