Transform Your Kitchen With A New Kitchenset – Home renovations are on the rise and this is set to continue in 2021. One of the most popular spaces that homeowners choose to renovate is their kitchens. Kitchens are where we spend a lot of time as a family and are an important part of a home. Now we’ve all seen the beautiful kitchens on our favorite shows, Hello, anything from Nancy Meyers and renovation/flip shows, but with them comes a very big budget and not everyone has the funds to do that . My parents moved their house over 25 years ago and the kitchen has remained the same. Yes, appliances have come and gone, but the layout and cabinets remain the same. This summer my mom decided she needed a project to distract herself and her focus immediately went to the kitchen. I’m glad to be on board with a design plan! So, today I’m going to share some kitchen remodeling ideas on a budget! Do them all or do just one! I’m sure they will give your kitchen a new look and a little life without breaking the bank!
This is what the kitchen used to look like: Just think of the doors behind it! I went a little delete happy and lost the photos before this. The top is a creamy color and the bottom is dark green with oil rubbed brass knobs and the original countertops and backsplash.

AFTER: Isn’t this a breath of fresh air! It’s a happy space that feels completely new!
How To Transform Your Kitchen With Paint
Paint your cabinets, your walls, and your ceiling. A fresh coat of paint can make a big impact. I know people can be scared about the process and it’s a doozy with a lot of steps, but it’s not that hard. Just under the weather. If you can pull it off from the outside then I say go for it! Price wise here in NY the quote we got for my parents kitchen was $4,000. Doing it yourself would be cheaper, but more time consuming.
*** For the most part our cabinet bases and doors are in good shape, but the sink base is in bad shape and needs to be replaced. We had to get a new base cabinet that was easy to buy from our home improvement store, but the doors are a different store. We cannot find the exact style of ready-made cabinets. Luckily I found Best Cabinet Doors and they work great. I gave them my usual size and they made it for me and it didn’t break the bank! I’m so glad I found a solution.***
I also updated the cabinet hardware and it made a huge difference! My hardware source is D LAWLESS HARDWARE. I have been ordering from them for the past 10 years and they are great! I email Derrick regularly with various requests! For this project, I used champagne bronze pulls and knobs.
Along with painting the cabinets we also gave everything a fresh coat of paint with new ceiling paint and wall paint. For the wall paint, we went with Whipped, which is a beautiful warm white! We’ve had the new paint job for a few months now and we still love it. No regrets!
Small Design Details That Can Transform Your Kitchen
A classic white subway tile is only 15 cents! There is no reason not to exchange it. This is an easy project to tackle on the DIY spectrum. Something that can be completely solved in the beginning. We didn’t have time to do it ourselves so I hired my handyman to do it and the demo of the old tile and new tile installation and grouting was only $300. Great value for us! Since we don’t need a ton of backsplash tiles so, I wanted something special to give me a little va va voom! I ended up with Portmore glazed ceramic tile by Tilebar and it’s so beautiful! It’s reminiscent of having this texture to it that gives it a handmade vibe and it has this amazing sheen to it.
If tile isn’t your thing then you can try swapping it for a beadboard panel. I think it looks really nice, but you have to be careful with the area behind the sink and stove.
If you don’t want to remove the tile altogether then a nice update is to paint your grout.
Countertops are not very budget friendly, but they are cheaper than a full kitchen renovation and they make a big difference! I chose a beautiful Calcutta gold quartz that has beautiful veining, slight gold/brown accents that work great on floors and are much more durable than marble. Now you can get it priced at home improvement stores and even Ikea, but my tip is to go directly to the stone yard. Many of them only work with contractors or designers, but I find that once you come in and look around they are willing to work with you. They also usually carry their own brand of stone and if you don’t mind a name brand it’s cheaper. The countertop we did was about $56 a sq ft and that included them coming in and measuring, making the template, cutting the sink, and installing the new countertop.
Small Kitchen Design Ideas On A Low Budget: Transforming Spaces Affordably
When we bought our first house we didn’t have a big budget for countertops so we decided to use Formica and I wasn’t too much of an idea, but I had to think about the budget and we went with this black one. a Silestone vibe and works perfectly. So. don’t be afraid to look at them. Especially when it comes to getting ready made sections at Lowes or Home Depot. It is very cheap! I use this faux marble finish countertop in my studio space and it looks great!
Along with the countertops we replaced the old yellow sink that my parents needed with this undermount sink beauty!!!!! A new faucet is on the cards too and I got this beautiful brass kitchen faucet with touch technology so, you can turn it on and off with a light touch. It took a little getting used to, but now everyone knows how to use it and not accidentally splash the arm.
Light, light, and more light. The kitchen could always use more light! Being at my parents’ house, we didn’t get a ton of direct sun. I always open their front door to let in more light! The kitchen has recessed lighting that gives us lots of light. We swapped the cans so they all had the same finish and cap on them. We also replaced the old looking ceiling fan and went with a Hepburn ceiling fan from Hunter. It has a nice warm brass finish with white fan blades. So beautiful!!!!! Everyone talks about it when they see it! It also has a cool remote switch for the wall and it controls light/dimmer and fan speed.
My parents don’t have a kitchen island in their kitchen. In that space, they have a dining table and chairs. This is where most of their meals are eaten. The set they have is something that has been there for years and really needs to be replaced. After the countertops, this is the second most expensive part of the renovation, but again it is much smaller than a major renovation.
A Kitchen Island Makes Your Life Easier
I did my usual search of thrift stores and facebook markets but all things need love. I need to redo it and reupholster the dining room chairs, etc. I decided it was better to just buy a new one. I finished this dining table with a driftwood finish and then paired it with this white and rattan base x back chairs. This is the best coordinating chair for the table. Remember that things should go together and speak to each other, but not necessarily match.
I also added some additional furniture elements like this accent chest, which holds all the boys’ school stuff. One side has Asher’s completed homework and art projects and the other side has Hudson’s. The top drawers contain pencils, chargers for their school electronics, staplers, and more. Above I put a couple of floating shelves to display some accessories!
This was a project that took all summer to complete and I’ll be honest by the end of the summer my mom wanted to quit. He was tired of painting the cabinets and wanted to quit, but he charged and I came in to help work. Outsourcing the installation of tile and painting the walls is a big help in getting over the hump and getting excited about the project again. We all love the finished result. The tile floors were in the house when we moved in and while my mom didn’t hate them she didn’t love them.
